Thru Hole Load Cells for Reliable Force Monitoring
When you’re dealing with anchor bolts, tie rods, or cable tension monitoring, a standard load cell often gets in the way. A thru hole design changes that. By letting the bolt or rod pass right through the center, these sensors sit neatly in the load path without extra brackets or adapters. That means less hardware, simpler setups, and fewer points of failure. At Kingmach, we’ve seen how this kind of load cell simplifies field installations on construction sites and in industrial rigging. It’s not just about saving space—it’s about getting consistent readings in setups where a conventional load cell would be a headache. From long-term structural monitoring to quick proof-load tests, the thru hole approach just makes sense.
Technical Detail
Kingmach Measurement & Monitoring Technology Co., Ltd. has been supplying geotechnical and structural sensors for a wide range of infrastructure projects. Our thru hole load cells fit into that lineup as practical tools for tension and compression measurements where bolts, cables, or rods need to pass through the sensor. The body is compact and machined from alloy steel, with a center hole that accommodates common rod diameters. Strain gauges are bonded inside and temperature-compensated to keep readings stable in field conditions. We offer capacities from a few tons up to higher ranges, and if your project calls for a specific bore size or output signal—like 4–20 mA or mV/V—we can usually accommodate that customization. These load cells have gone into bridge stay-cable monitoring, tieback anchoring, and even lifting equipment checks. Because we handle manufacturing in-house, lead times and quality control stay predictable. Every sensor ships with a calibration sheet, and our technical team can walk you through integration with your data logger or PLC. For projects that need CE or other compliance marks, we provide documentation without extra fuss.

A thru hole load cell has a hollow center, so bolts, cables, or rods can pass through it. This lets you measure tension directly on a tie rod or monitor loads on an anchor bolt without extra fixtures. A standard compression load cell needs a flat loading surface and often a load cap, which adds height and complexity.
The standard output is typically mV/V from a full bridge strain gauge circuit. But we can integrate signal conditioning to give you 4–20 mA, 0–10 V, or even RS485 digital output. It depends on your data acquisition setup and how far the signal needs to travel.
Yes, customization is one of our strengths. We machine the sensor body to match your required bore size, whether you need it for an M20 bolt or a larger anchor rod. Just provide the nominal bolt diameter and any clearance tolerances, and we’ll check feasibility.
Many of our thru hole models are sealed to IP67 or IP68, making them suitable for outdoor use and temporary submersion. For permanent underwater installations, we can add extra sealing or use stainless steel construction. Make sure to specify your environmental conditions when ordering.
In a typical configuration, total accuracy can be within ±0.5% of full scale or better, including non-linearity, hysteresis, and repeatability. They’re temperature compensated, which helps maintain stability over months and years. For critical applications, we suggest annual recalibration.
